What do you do when God calls or asks you to do something specific for Him? Is He asking you to do something big, new, or seemingly impossible? What do you do when you feel too inadequate to respond?
I want to encourage you today. When God calls you to do something, it is never just for yourself. It is not for your own gain, benefit, or success, but for the extension of God’s kingdom and His glory. That is why God will always call you to do something in partnership with Him. Thus, you are not alone and He has planned it all in advance.
Ephesians 2:10 AMP ”For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us].”
I believe that God has blessed us all with specific spiritual gifts. We also have distinct life experiences and spheres of influence that put us in a position to do certain work for God. We are not the same, and do not have the same personal calling on our lives. Your calling is unique.
I know when God is calling you to do something for Him, it can be daunting or scary. Just think about Moses (Exodus 3 and 4) and Gideon (Judges 6) as examples in the Bible. They doubted and questioned God’s calling because of their own shortcomings. Moses was concerned about his difficulty with speech. Gideon saw himself as the lowest and smallest in all of Israel. He had no respect or status within his family.
Someone coined this popular phrase: ”God does not call the equipped. He equips the called.”
God saw Moses and Gideon as able and courageous before they did. He promised to be with them, equipping them, and guiding them on their path. God saw Gideon as a brave man who could save Israel from the Midianites.
Another person we can look to in the Bible is Abram. God saw Abram as the father of many nations before he even had a child. Thus, God changed Abram’s name to Abraham (father of a multitude) when He made the covenant with him.
God also sees our potential and all He has planned and promised for us. If you feel unable to do what God is calling you to do, you may be unaware of all God has already placed within you. He has created you with great potential and abilities, through His Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 2:9 AMP ”But just as it is written [in Scripture], “THINGS WHICH THE EYE HAS NOT SEEN AND THE EAR HAS NOT HEARD, AND WHICH HAVE NOT ENTERED THE HEART OF MAN, ALL THAT GOD HAS PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM [who hold Him in affectionate reverence, who obey Him, and who gratefully recognize the benefits that He has bestowed].”
God is with you, so you can do what appears impossible. He is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. He is the Creator of Heaven and Earth, which includes, YOU. In your weakness, He is strong. God is limitless. Do not limit what God can do in and through you, with your thinking.
Luke 1:37 ESV ”For nothing will be impossible with God.”
God is not asking you to be perfect or to have it all figured out. All He wants from you is your availability and obedience. He will do the rest.
Let’s look at the word available. The Holy Spirit drew my attention to the way the word can be divided into sections, A-VAIL-ABLE.
A is the A plan. God has the absolute best calling for your life. It is not the B plan or a second-rated plan. It is a God plan.
Vail is your part, and able is God’s part in your calling. Vail means to take off or lower one’s (hat or crown) as a token of respect or submission.
All God asks from you when He calls you, is to submit to Him and lower your crown. Thus, surrender your thinking, ways, reservations, questions, and life to Him. Be humble, and God promises that He will walk with you.
Micah 6:8 b AMP And to walk humbly with your God [setting aside any overblown sense of importance or self-righteousness].”
Isaiah 57:15 AMP ”For the high and exalted One He who inhabits eternity, Whose name is Holy says this, “I dwell on the high and holy place, But also with the contrite and humble in spirit In order to revive the spirit of the humble…
Able is defined as having the power, skill, means, intelligence, or opportunity to do something.
God is the One with the power and means. He will create the opportunities for His plan to play out. Just be obedient to His prompting and all He requests from you. When you submit all you have in His hands, He makes you able.
Philippians 1:6 AMP ”I am convinced and confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will [continue to] perfect and complete it until the day of Christ Jesus [the time of His return].”
One last thought. When you surrender yourself to His calling, what you have, is enough. You bring the natural and God will add His supernatural. Just as Jesus multiplied the boy’s two fish and five loaves to feed thousands of people, what you have is more than enough in the hands of the Lord. He can use you mightily for His kingdom and purpose. So, whatever God is calling you to do, say ”Yes Lord, here I am.”
Pray with me: Lord, I pray that You will make my eyes and ears sensitive to Your voice. Please speak to me and reveal to me my unique purpose. I surrender my life, dreams, wants, and thoughts to You. I am saying ”Yes Lord. Here I am”. Use me. I trust in Your ways and plans. I am stepping out in faith and know that You will teach me with every step I take. Give me the courage and humility to complete all You have planned for me in such a way that it will glorify You. Thank you that you are always with me. Thank you that I am chosen and favored. Your kingdom come and Your will be done. Amen
Stay resolute, and just do it, my friend.
